Bethany and Mike have both ended up in Chandlerville for a reason. Bethany has come back home to her loving and boisterous foster family after making many mistakes on her own. She finally realizes that she needs them and that the love that they offer does not need to be earned, but is given freely. Mike is a world-renowned photographer (who hides behind initials so that no one knows who he is) who takes on special assignments as a physical therapist to help others when he needs a break. At their first “non” meeting, Bethany and Mike are inexplicably drawn to each other and Mike steps in as Bethany’s pretend boyfriend to deter her rather pesky ex who broke her heart as a teenager when he passed of her art as his own. Bethany runs from the feelings that Mike evokes in her, but the fates have other ideas. They keep running into each other, with their feeling growing stronger each time. Bethany must overcome her fear when it turns out that Mike is the therapist assigned to help her foster father Joe rehab from his heart attack.Bethany and Mike are each broken in their own way, but they are two kindred souls that will help make each other whole again, who are better together than apart. I loved both of the main characters, along with Bethany’s friends and especially her big, messy, over-protective family. This was a great story and only the second that I have read by Ms. Destefano. I will definitely be reading more books by this talented author.
